Extending a good time allows us to stop the obligations that often prevent us from enjoying life. And that is EXTENSO, a signature wine that has been the result of a thoughtful production and design process.
E X T E N S O
In the 2009 vintage we found two exceptional corners of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Monastrell vineyards near the Sierra del Carche, whose grapes were simply supernatural. Plants that were a true prodigy of nature.
We decided to harvest these plots separately and not at the same time as the rest. It was the first light of the day of a warm month of September. Dawn marked the freshness that the grapes needed to reach the perfect temperature in the cellar, in small boxes where no cluster overlapped another.
Throughout the day we shelled the grapes by hand so that we obtained loose berries, discarding those that were not completely perfect.
The winemaking process was also carried out in a special and meticulous way; The alcoholic fermentation took place with autochthonous yeasts, in cubic French oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation took place in the same containers, with a controlled and constant temperature.
The wine spent two long years in oxidative aging, during which time we carried out the racking that the wine asked of us, gaining elegance and personality month after month. At Carchelo we were realizing that we were creating something different, superlative, which is why we understood there that the image and presentation of the wine should also be at the highest level. The renowned designer Eduardo del Fraile was in charge of designing the image and packaging of EXTENSO.
After this, at the beginning of February 2012 we bottled the 530 magnums that today shape this wine: EXTENSO. The same ones that have remained sleeping, lying down and at a controlled temperature between 16 and 18 degrees since then (ten years ago) until today.
This very limited edition of EXTENSO may continue when the circumstances that make it possible to create a wine from an exceptional vintage occur again. It is about ‘bottling’ a special, unique vintage that will go down in history. These circumstances may occur once in every decade, but that is the beautiful and seductive thing about this project…
Extending a good time allows us to stop the obligations that often prevent us from enjoying life. And that is EXTENSO, a signature wine that has been the result of a thoughtful production and design process. Together with the designer Eduardo del Fraile we shaped something unique, revolutionary in the world of wine. A packaging that incorporates the wine in magnum format (1.5 liters) in a bottle style halfway between Bordeaux and Rhin, fine, elegant, completely opaque to light with Carchelo’s corporate colors, black and white. In turn, the wine is protected by another wooden bottle that we open in two halves to reveal its content. All presented in an elegant black case along with four silk-screened glasses with the winery’s logo.
